Today marked the inaugural WW2 & Korean Veterans Lunch – and what a wonderful day it was. The new PMQ RSL sub-Branch Wellbeing Team organised the lunch to celebrate and show our appreciation to our much loved Veterans. The theme for today’s lunch was “Getting On With It” – which was a focus on not only their service, but how they got on with their lives upon returning home. With 14 Veterans in attendance being hosted by sub-Branch Committee members as well as some of our younger Veterans who have taken on a role with the Wellbeing Team. Headed up by Justin Poppleton, the team should be very proud of their efforts in bringing this lunch together. In particular, our office assistant, Jane Gilson spent many hours visiting each of the Veterans to extend their lunch invitation to them and spend a little time getting to know them.
Special guest speaker Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan gave the address on behalf of Veteran Neville Peel-Davis who shared some insight into how he “got on with it” following his return from service in Borneo. Mr Conaghan said that he “feels privileged to be asked to attend events such as these, recognising the service and sacrifice not just of those that actively served, but of their families and support networks.”
We hope to continue to hold these lunches to celebrate some of the most treasured members of our sub-Branch.
